Isn’t art magical?
It’s everywhere around us, in so many different shapes and forms.
When you walk around in the neighbourhood or a city, do you notice those (usually colourful) painted walls? Murals.
Once empty and cold walls turned into messages. Shaped and filled with colours to ignite some kind of a spark in us.
This kind of magic is also happening on the rooftops.
ECRN (European creative rooftop network) is a consortium of NGOs, municipalities, associations and private organisations working to use European rooftops as creatively as possible.
Larsen Bervoets from Antwerp, a multi-disciplinary and experimental artist was chosen to paint murals in 6 European cities (Antwerp, Chemnitz, Faro, Gothenburg, Nicosia and Rotterdam) as part of the landmark project.
The first stop was Göteborg, where Larsen together with the students of Göteborgs Konstskola painted a 2000m2 landmark.

The second stop is Rotterdam where Larsen and students of Osg Hugo de Groot High School are finishing the second landmark on top of the shopping mall Zuidplein in Rotterdam.
I have had the pleasure to join as well and give my small contribution to the revitalization of this unused space.
This opening of the landmark is set for June 1st so, if you are around join the festival and enjoy.
You can follow the development and creation of Faro, Nicosia, Antwerp and Chemnitz landmarks and other amazing cultural and art happenings here.
On your next walk, don’t just pass by with your mind fanned out. Look around, up, to your left and right, maybe even down. You just might find something that will make your day and spark up your mind.
