Greetings from the heart of OTB’s headquarters!

Thrilled to Share My Journey as an Intern at OTB!

Prepare to be inspired! I am thrilled to share with you my unforgettable experience as an intern at OTB, an esteemed international NGO committed to making a positive impact on our communities worldwide. Over the past few months, I have had the privilege of working alongside dedicated professionals and contributing to projects that aim at transforming lives and our societies.

Please, allow me to take you on a journey through the highlights of my internship.

Diverse and Collaborative Environment

From day one, I was welcomed with open arms by the warm and supportive team at OTB, a personal plus for me was that the organisation is composed of Serbian and Croatian people which allowed me to exchange my own experiences in the Balkans and improve my command of the language. In addition, people from Lithuania and Portugal are part of the OTB family, fostering a unique and enriching multicultural exchange and environment. The commitment to diversity and inclusion created a melting pot of talent, where creativity and innovation flourished!

Meaningful Projects with Global Impact

Working at OTB was a fulfilling experience as I was involved in projects with significant global impact. My role in the NGO focused on project management, I assisted in the management of several projects with international impact: prevention of radicalisation, circular economy, as well as, promotion of peace, democracy and EU values in the Western Balkans. Thanks to these experiences I have consolidated a high level of commitment, problem-solving skills, versatility and negotiation skills furthering my competencies and soft skills. Whether it was researching good practices, writing curriculum or facilitating workshops and training, I felt empowered knowing that my efforts were positively shaping lives.

Learning and Professional Growth

As an intern, I had the opportunity to learn from highly competent professionals. The mentorship provided by experienced team members was invaluable, and I gained insights into effective project management, impact assessment, and cross-cultural communication. The nurturing environment at OTB allowed me to embrace new challenges, develop critical skills, and grow both personally and professionally. One of the most exciting aspects of working at OTB was the organisation’s eagerness to embrace innovation and entrepreneurship in social projects.

Impact Stories that Inspire

Witnessing the direct impact of OTB’s projects was awe-inspiring. As part of my role, I had the opportunity to be involved in the delivery of training in Brussels and I could interact with beneficiaries. Hearing their stories of empowerment and transformation reinforced the importance of OTB’s work and motivated me to contribute my best to the organisation’s mission. One unforgettable experience in OTB was when we had to deliver training for the REBUILD project and we ended up sharing the best proposals for youth engagement at the European Parliament!

Nurturing a Global Network

My journey at OTB broadened my horizons and connected me with a vast network of like-minded individuals, partners, and supporters around the globe. The sense of camaraderie and shared vision within the NGO community is truly remarkable.

Gratitude and a Bright Future

As my internship at OTB comes to an end, I leave with a heart full of gratitude for this extraordinary experience and family. The lessons I’ve learned and the relationships I’ve formed will stay with me throughout my personal and career journey. I am confident that OTB’s unwavering dedication to creating a better world will continue to inspire change and touch the lives of countless individuals in need.

Join Us in Creating a Brighter Future!

I’d like to thank the family behind the organisation and say a huge thank you for being part of my personal and incredible journey within OTB. Your support, commitment and encouragement make all the difference. Together, we can create a brighter future for the communities we serve. And personally, I’m thrilled to share that I will continue my professional development with this incredible organisation!

With warm regards,

Enrique Martos Sánchez OTB Intern.

Why Out of the Box International

The seemingly ever-lasting depression of European economies has shaken the very foundations of many European societies. The shear rate of unemployment in Europe and the omnipresent environmental crisis coupled with the often frustratingly slow process of decision making in the EU, are calling for civil society actors to step in and fill the void.

In the aftermath of the 2008. economic crisis, the apprehension of falling under the spell of apathy of economic depression across the continent has not been easy to shake off. However, pinpointing the culprits for the current state of affairs on any particular EU decision maker is not the answer. Nonetheless, the fact remains that the current approach to the economic and environmental crisis hasn’t yet shown the affected citizens the light at the end of the tunnel.

As representatives of the civil society we feel the need to make our voice heard in the midst of the current debate on economic crisis. Being a social enterprise we offer new and feasible ideas in education and community work, creative cross-sectorial cooperation among different actors and strong networking coalitions to turn these dire economic challenges into possibilities through social entrepreneurship initiatives which aim at benefiting wide range of citizens, particularly vulnerable groups and those affected by the economic crisis.

Social entrepreneurship is a simple concept that has been put into practice by civil society actors for the benefit of a specific social group or people, and this is precisely what we want: to create projects and initiatives with fresh ideas in different policies, educational programs or tools, support businesses, empower cultural initiatives and offer different solutions to individuals, corporate bodies, everybody who believe that we can have more Creative, Innovative and Cohesive Europe.
