Given the most relevant trends that have emerged in Europe in the current decade, Out of the Box International has refined its strategic priorities to better adapt to the challenges that Europe will face in the upcoming years. As part of the planning period 2025-2029, Out of the Box International, together with its pool of experts, has as a main goal to gather the necessary know-how and expertise to develop policy position papers on the new strategic priorities’ future direction: Alternative Democracies; Social Cohesion; Mental Health; and Cross-Cutting Priorities.

  1. Out of the Box Strategic Paper on Alternative Democracies

Traditional governance models are increasingly challenged and appear inoperative to cope with the rising trends and obstacles of the 21st century. Therefore, there is an urgent need for a renewed commitment to European democratic principles. This strategic priority proposes a bold vision in terms of inclusivity, participation, and resilience. By fostering innovative governance models, safeguarding civic spaces, and leveraging digital technologies, Out of the Box International (OTB) seeks to bridge the growing divide between citizens and decision-makers, ensuring that democratic processes remain representing citizens’ general will, responsive and adaptable to the needs of the 21st century.

  1. Out of the Box Strategic Paper on Social Cohesion

The increasing extremist political polarization of European societies, in addition to the challenges of economic disparities, migration, digital divides, and the ageing of the population demand holistic strategies to build resilient and connected communities. This strategic paper outlines OTB’s commitment to leverage social innovation, cross-sector collaboration, and youth empowerment as mechanisms to foster European social cohesion. By addressing these pressing issues with targeted, evidence-based initiatives, OTB aims to empower communities and create sustainable, long-term cohesive impact across Europe.

  1. Out of the Box Strategic Paper on Mental Health & Happiness

The COVID-19 pandemic marked a turning point in the recognition of mental health as a critical global concern. Out of the Box International recognises the significant impact mental well-being has on the lives of young people and is committed to integrating mental health initiatives into its strategic planning. In alignment with the European Commission’s comprehensive approach to mental health, OTB will focus on providing resources, support, and awareness around mental health and happiness.

  1. Out of the Box Cross-Cutting Priorities

Out of the Box International’s cross-cutting priorities reflect our commitment to addressing fast-changing societal challenges through innovative and inclusive approaches. By focusing on young people, social business, and artificial intelligence, OTB intends to promote the rest of the strategic priorities set for this planning period. These cross-cutting priorities guide OTB’s work towards creating resilient, empowered communities that are equipped to navigate the complexities of the modern world. Our innovative approaches aim to empower individuals, particularly vulnerable groups, through social initiatives, policy development, and educational tools that inspire a more cohesive, inclusive, and forward-thinking Europe.

Conclusion

In an increasingly complex and fast-changing Europe, OTB’s adaptability and strategic priorities come as crucial responses to the challenges of our time. Through innovative initiatives and commitment to inclusivity and resilience, we aim to nurture healthier, more democratic and more cohesive communities that can thrive in the 21st century. By empowering individuals and fostering collaboration across sectors, we remain committed to making a lasting difference in Europe’s social structure, aiming for a more connected, supportive, and fair future for everyone

Why Out of the Box International

The seemingly ever-lasting depression of European economies has shaken the very foundations of many European societies. The shear rate of unemployment in Europe and the omnipresent environmental crisis coupled with the often frustratingly slow process of decision making in the EU, are calling for civil society actors to step in and fill the void.

In the aftermath of the 2008. economic crisis, the apprehension of falling under the spell of apathy of economic depression across the continent has not been easy to shake off. However, pinpointing the culprits for the current state of affairs on any particular EU decision maker is not the answer. Nonetheless, the fact remains that the current approach to the economic and environmental crisis hasn’t yet shown the affected citizens the light at the end of the tunnel.

As representatives of the civil society we feel the need to make our voice heard in the midst of the current debate on economic crisis. Being a social enterprise we offer new and feasible ideas in education and community work, creative cross-sectorial cooperation among different actors and strong networking coalitions to turn these dire economic challenges into possibilities through social entrepreneurship initiatives which aim at benefiting wide range of citizens, particularly vulnerable groups and those affected by the economic crisis.

Social entrepreneurship is a simple concept that has been put into practice by civil society actors for the benefit of a specific social group or people, and this is precisely what we want: to create projects and initiatives with fresh ideas in different policies, educational programs or tools, support businesses, empower cultural initiatives and offer different solutions to individuals, corporate bodies, everybody who believe that we can have more Creative, Innovative and Cohesive Europe.
