Tips for Brussels’ Trips vol 4: Moldova
Out of the Box organised and conducted training in Moldova as a part of our “Tips for Brussels’ Trips” program, focused on empowering advocacy and providing the local civil society representatives with the necessary tools that would help them lobby and advocate for human rights at EU level.
A workshop was organised in partnership with Civil Rights Defenders aiming to train civil society organisations in Moldova in navigating through the myriad of institutions and procedures in what is often described as the “EU bubble” to successfully lobby and advocate. The training focused on using appropriate advocacy and lobbying tools suitable for NGO’s in a Moldovan context while also putting these tools into practice in a real life setting. The training will follow up with a field visit to Brussels where the participants will have an opportunity to turn into practice what they learned at the workshop.
The need for this workshop came from the fact that violations of human rights continue to be a major concern in Moldova. Hate crimes against LGBT people, unlawful arrests, abuses of freedom of speech, violence against women, people trafficking, and marginalisation of the Roma community keep persisting as unaddressed issues. Therefore it is all the more necessary that civil society are equipped with the knowledge and skills to lobby for change in Brussels and that is where Out of the Box steps in, providing tools, guidance, experience and expertise.
